Peanut is a gentle senior dog who is looking for a calm and understanding family to spend his golden years with. He came into the SPCA's care after his previous family found it increasingly difficult to manage some of his behavioural challenges. While change has not always been easy for Peanut, he has shown us that, with patience and respect, he is capable of forming deep and meaningful bonds with the people he trusts.
Peanut isn't the type of dog who will instantly become everyone's best friend—and that's perfectly okay. He values having his boundaries respected, particularly around his neck, which is a sensitive area for him. He also has a history of resource guarding and previous biting incidents, so he needs an adopter who is committed to understanding his body language and allowing trust to develop naturally.
Personality
Once Peanut feels safe with someone, his sweet and affectionate personality begins to shine. He enjoys the quiet company of his trusted people and is happiest when life follows a predictable routine.
He is a laid-back boy who doesn't ask for much. A comfortable place to rest, gentle companionship, and opportunities to explore the world at his own pace are all he really needs.
Daily Life
One of Peanut's greatest joys is going for walks. He especially loves slow "sniffaris," where he can take his time investigating every interesting scent along the way. These walks are an important form of mental enrichment and help him feel relaxed and fulfilled.
Peanut also tends to hold his urine for long periods, so he will require three walks each day to ensure he can toilet comfortably.
When he's at home, Peanut is wonderfully easy-going. He is more than happy to curl up on a soft rug or bed and spend much of the day snoozing peacefully nearby.
Behaviour
Comfort with handling: Peanut appreciates gentle, respectful handling once trust has been established. He is particularly sensitive around his neck and prefers this area not to be touched.
Around strangers: He takes time to build trust with unfamiliar people and benefits from slow introductions without pressure.
Progress: Peanut continues to thrive with a predictable routine and positive, force-free handling. As his confidence grows, so does his ability to relax around the people he knows well.
Training & Management
Peanut has a history of resource guarding and has been involved in previous biting incidents. These behaviours are manageable in the right home but require adopters who are willing to understand canine body language, respect his boundaries, and continue building his confidence through positive reinforcement.
Because of his behavioural history, Peanut would benefit from living with experienced adopters who are prepared to work at his pace and provide clear, consistent routines.
We strongly recommend that adopters engage a trainer who uses 100% force-free, science-based, positive reinforcement training methods to help Peanut settle successfully into his new home.
Ideal Home
Peanut would thrive in a quiet household with two to three adults, where life is calm and predictable.
He would do best in a home without young children, where his boundaries can be respected and he won't be placed in situations that make him uncomfortable.
As an HDB-approved dog under Project ADORE, Peanut would make a wonderful companion for adopters living in HDB flats who are looking for a gentle senior dog and are committed to giving him the understanding he deserves.
Looking for His Forever Home
Peanut doesn't need a perfect family—he simply needs the right one.
A family that understands that trust isn't given overnight, but earned through patience, kindness, and respect. A family who will celebrate the small milestones: the first relaxed sigh beside you, the wag of his tail when it's time for a walk, or the quiet comfort of having him asleep at your feet after a long sniffari.
Senior dogs like Peanut are so often overlooked, but they have an incredible amount of love left to give. All he asks for is a peaceful place to call home and someone willing to see beyond his past.
In return, you'll gain a loyal companion who will treasure every moment spent by your side.
If you're not ready to adopt, Peanut is also available for long-term fostering, where you can make a life-changing difference while providing him with the comfort of a home environment.
