About Nana

Name: Nana
Gender: Female
Breed: Cane Corso
Colour: Black
Age: 4 years 5 months (as of Mar 2026)

Not HDB Approved

Nana's world changed forever in September 2025 when she lost her beloved owner. With no family able to take her in, this sensitive girl found herself at the SPCA, confused and grieving the only life she had ever known.

Nana is a tender, loving dog who bonds deeply once she trusts you, though she wears her heart on her paw and needs time to reveal her true self. With her trusted people, she is affectionate and devoted, a loyal companion who will quietly shadow the ones she loves. However, new faces and unfamiliar places make her anxious, and she will require multiple consistent interactions to build confidence with new family members. Her shyness isn't rejection—it's self-protection from a dog who has known loss and confusion. While she once lived peacefully in a multi-dog household, a traumatic attack by another dog before entering our care has left her wary of unfamiliar canines, and she may display reactivity that requires careful, managed introductions and understanding.

What Nana Needs in a Home

Nana requires a calm, predictable environment where she can decompress and learn to trust again at her own pace. For this reason, her ideal home must have no children younger than 13 years old, as young children's unpredictability and energy would overwhelm her sensitive nature. Previous experience with large breeds would be highly beneficial, as her size combined with her nervousness requires gentle, knowledgeable handling. Patience is absolutely essential—this is not a dog who will settle in overnight. She will need multiple visits before adoption to build familiarity, and engagement with a professional trainer is required to help her settle into her new life and develop the confidence she has lost. Any interactions with other dogs must be conducted slowly with close supervision, respecting her fear-based reactivity and never forcing encounters before she is ready.

How to Adopt Nana

All adoption applications are handled by email only, as Nana's extreme shyness makes casual viewings distressing for her. Interested families should email us expressing their interest, after which we will conduct a thorough assessment of your experience, home environment, lifestyle, and readiness to commit to a shy, scheduled breed with specific needs. Only families assessed to be suitable will be invited to meet her, and these meetings will be structured as multiple, gradual sessions designed to allow Nana to become comfortable with you at her own gentle pace. This careful, deliberate process exists entirely for her wellbeing and the safety of the adopters, ensuring she is not overwhelmed by well-meaning but unsuitable visitors and giving her the best possible foundation for a successful, forever placement.

Could You Be Nana's Person?

Nana is not a love-at-first-sight dog—she is a love-that-grows dog. She will not shower strangers with exuberant affection or charm you immediately with playful antics. What she offers instead is something quieter and perhaps more precious: the devotion of a dog who chooses you, who learns to trust you, who becomes your shadow and your steady companion once she knows she is home. If you have a quiet household, a gentle spirit, and the commitment to help a nervous girl rediscover joy through patience and understanding, Nana is waiting to meet you. The best things in life are worth waiting for, and Nana is proof of that.

Please note that adopters are to engage trainers who advocate and practice non-aversive training methods only.
