Meet Hippie:
Hippie came to us in July 2025 after his feeder noticed he could only take a few steps before needing to rest. On examination, he was found to have degenerative hip dysplasia in both hips and was anemic. With months of care, physiotherapy support, medication, and time to heal, Hippie has made a remarkable recovery. Today, he walks and even runs — and to most people, you’d never guess he has a chronic condition.
Personality:
Hippie is a gentle, quiet, and independent boy. He prefers to observe from a distance and approach at his own pace. He is still skittish with close handling, and despite our efforts, we are still working on helping him feel safe with being leashed. He is not aggressive — just unsure and slow to trust.
Once he feels safe, Hippie shows his sweetness in small ways: lingering nearby, softly following you, lying close but not touching — quiet companionship.
What He Needs in a Foster Home:
We are looking for a foster who can offer patience, space, and consistency.
Ideally someone who:
• Lives in a landed home with a secure, fully fenced compound
• Can allow Hippie to toilet and explore freely in the garden/grass patch
• Understands that building trust may take weeks to months
• Is comfortable working without relying on leashing in the early phase
• Can continue light socialisation at Hippie’s pace
• Can bring him to scheduled vet check-ups (transport can be assisted if needed)
Hippie cannot return to his original community due to his degenerative hip condition — he needs a safe and stable environment where he can move comfortably, slowly, and confidently without being forced to defend himself or search for resources.

All veterinary care, food, medication, and behavioural guidance will be fully supported by SPCA. You will not be alone — our team will walk this journey with you.
Hippie doesn’t need someone perfect — just someone patient.
