Their Journey to SPCA: Wasabi was surrendered to the SPCA at 9 years old after being diagnosed with diabetes and a nerve injury affecting his back legs. He is currently being cared for in a foster home rather than at the shelter.

Personality: Wasabi is a resilient spirit with a massive heart and a genuine love for life. He can be slightly feisty and occasionally unpredictable, but his sweet side shines through for those he trusts. Despite his physical challenges, he remains spirited and is a special senior companion looking for a second chance.

Daily Life: Because of his nerve injury, Wasabi walks with a noticeable wobble, often using his elbows to help move his back legs. He requires a patient and understanding household that can provide a consistent medical routine. One thing is for certain: treats are the absolute highlight of his day!

Behaviour & Training

  • Comfort with handling: He responds best to gentle affection and owners who can read his occasional "feisty" signals.
  • Behaviour around strangers: May be unpredictable initially; he requires a transition period to build trust in a new environment.
  • Progress made: He has adapted well to his wobbly gait and maintains a positive, resilient outlook on life.

Medical History

  • Previous injuries/illnesses: Nerve injury affecting his back legs.
  • Current health status: Diagnosed with diabetes.
  • Ongoing care: Requires daily insulin shots to manage his diabetes. Adopters must be committed to maintaining this medical schedule and providing regular veterinary monitoring.

Ideal Home

  • Environment: A calm, stable household where his mobility and medical needs are accommodated.
  • Safety Requirements: Secure cat-proof meshing is a mandatory requirement to prevent accidental falls.
  • Owner Profile: Suitable for an experienced or dedicated owner who is comfortable administering insulin and who appreciates the unique bond shared with a senior cat.

Special Care Requirements

  • Environmental Needs: Verification of meshing or grille measurements is required before the adoption can be finalised.
  • Licensing: All adopters are required to license their cats at the point of adoption via the official portal (https://go.gov.sg/petownershipcourse).

Progress Since Rescue: Since entering the SPCA system and moving to a foster home, Wasabi has shown incredible resilience. He has proven that a medical diagnosis and a wobbly walk don't define him, and he is now fully prepared to find a permanent family that will cherish him.

Educational Corner - The Importance of Cat-Proof Meshing: It is a common myth that cats always land on their feet; in reality, high-rise falls can lead to devastating injuries or death. Installing secure mesh or grilles on all windows and gates is the most effective way to protect your cat, ensuring they do not "take the fall" for a lack of home safety. Looking for a Perfect Family: Wasabi is a special senior companion who has a lot of heart to give. He is looking for a sanctuary that sees the wonderful cat he is on the inside and is committed to his long-term health. Life with Wasabi will be deeply rewarding for a family willing to walk alongside him at his own unique pace.
