Timmy came to us in March 2026 after a kind resident found him abandoned and wandering around a rooftop garden. He has also been observed to have tachypnea.
He is currently uncomfortable with touch and may shut down when handled. Timmy is shy and will need time to warm up at his own pace. Despite this, he is a lively and curious little guy who will gently sniff your hands when being hand-fed.
Hamster Care Requirements
To support Timmy's welfare and comfort, the following setup is required:
Housing & Environment
- Enclosure measuring at least 90 x 50 x 50 cm or larger
- Placed indoors in a cool, well-ventilated area
- Not suitable for balconies, even if shaded, due to heat risks
Bedding & Substrate
- Unscented, soft bedding that supports natural burrowing behaviour
- Safe substrates to allow exploration and enrichment
Sand Bath
- Unscented sand in a container approximately A5 size for grooming
Essentials
- Water bottle
- Food bowl
- Running wheel: minimum 21 cm diameter for Robo hamsters
Temperature & Conditions
- Ideal environment: ~25°C with ~40% humidity
- In warm environments, hamsters may reduce burrowing and show signs of stress
- Ensure good airflow and ventilation, especially in homes without air conditioning
