🌲 Meet Woods
Woods came into our care in January 2026 after a kind member of the public found her injured and limping, with concerns that she may have been involved in a road traffic accident.
Since then, Woods has undergone extensive veterinary assessment and treatment for multiple conditions affecting her ears, balance, and nervous system. Despite everything she has been through, she continues to show resilience and determination.
💛 Personality
Woods is a cat who likes to take things on her own terms.
She appreciates patience, understanding, and gentle handling. Once she feels comfortable, her carers have found her to be a sweet girl who simply needs people to respect her boundaries and move at a pace she is comfortable with.
Because of her medical conditions, Woods can sometimes be hesitant about moving around and may prefer to rest and observe her surroundings before deciding to explore.
🩺 Medical Notes
Woods has been diagnosed with idiopathic vestibular disease and vertebral hyperesthesia (feline hyperesthesia syndrome).
Vestibular disease affects the body's balance system and can cause:
- Occasional head tilt
- Mild wobbliness when walking
- Reduced confidence with movement
She also has a history of significant ear disease, including infections affecting both ears. Previous ear cytology revealed bacterial and fungal organisms, and she continues to require monitoring of her ear health.
In addition, Woods experiences increased sensitivity along her spine, particularly over the thoracic and lower back regions. Touch in these areas can sometimes be uncomfortable and may trigger a reaction.
Current observations include:
- Bright, alert, and responsive
- Able to stand and walk independently
- Occasional head tilt
- Mild balance abnormalities at times
- Sensitive along the back and tail region
- Reduced enthusiasm for moving around compared to other cats
- Normal conscious proprioception and deep pain sensation responses
🏠 What Woods Needs in a Foster Home
Woods will thrive in a calm, predictable environment where she is given time and space to settle.
Her foster family should be able to provide:
- Gentle, patient handling
- Respect for her sensitivity around her back and hindquarters
- A quiet environment with minimal stress
- Monitoring of hydration status, including skin-tent checks if trained by the veterinary team
- Observation for changes in balance, mobility, or comfort
- Easy access to food, water, litter trays, and resting areas
Most importantly, Woods needs people who are willing to let her move at her own pace and build trust gradually.
🌟 Why Foster Woods?
Woods has overcome a great deal since arriving in our care.
Living with balance issues and spinal sensitivity can make the world feel a little less predictable, but Woods continues to navigate it with courage. She deserves a foster home where she can feel safe, understood, and comfortable.
For the right foster family, helping Woods gain confidence and enjoy life's simple comforts can be an incredibly rewarding experience.
