Education Programmes
Develop the right skills and attitude in caring for pets and find out how you can help animals in need through our education programmes!

Talks
We conduct talks for various audiences, including primary and secondary schools, junior colleges, tertiary institutions and CCA group gatherings. Talks are also available for national libraries, community centres and other organisations. Through these talks, participants can find out what it takes to keep their furry friends happy, and will also learn valuable and easy-to-use tips to help them better understand their pet.
Our talks are customisable and can be worked to suit the target audience. An LCD projector, laptop and mic will be required.
General topics covered during our presentation include:
- What we do at the SPCA
- Caring for your pet
- Cases of animal abuse
- How you can help and get involved
Visits
Visits are also conducted at our premises. We conduct 1.5 hour long educational visits which comprise:
- An educational talk on our services, cruelty cases we have handled, animal care, and how the attendees can help the animals in our shelter
- An interaction session with animals in our education pavilion and conference room where attendees will learn about animal behaviour and how to interact with animals (do note that this is subjected to change, and dependant on the animals’ behaviour on the day)
- Shopping at our very own merchandise shop where the proceeds from the sale of the merchandise will go towards helping the animals in our shelter.

This is because larger groups stress the animals and animal welfare is of utmost priority at the SPCA.
Animal Kind Book
We are proud to introduce “Animal Kind”, a groundbreaking publication on animal welfare education for primary school pupils. This book was adapted from the RSPCA’s U.K. “Animal Wise” book.
“Animal Kind” marks an important milestone in animal welfare education. This resource is Singapore’s first-ever teaching tool aimed at educating children on appreciating and respecting animals in a fun, interesting and informative way.
Teachers will find “Animal Kind” a useful and innovative addition to their regular teaching material. The resource book comprises 17 worksheets, and fact sheets on different animals and pet care. Children can learn how to love and respect animals while learning English, Science, Mathematics, and Civics and Moral Education all at the same time.
VIA / Service Learning
Every year, we receive many requests from schools wanting to help us as part of their Community Involvement Programme/Service Learning programme. We are extremely grateful for the tremendous support given!
However, due to our limited resources, there is only so much we can accommodate by way of students volunteering at the SPCA. We also have a minimum age requirement of 17 years and above for our volunteer programme.
Nonetheless, there are many other ways for you to help our animal welfare cause. The best way to do this is by helping us create awareness about SPCA’s work in your school.
Very often, animals are abandoned and abused because of the lack of awareness and knowledge about their welfare. The more awareness created, the better our animal friends will be treated. SPCA will acknowledge the hours as CIP hours.
So, how is this done? You could select some of these ideas:
- Sign up for SPCA’s Youth Ambassador Programme! More information here.
- Give a presentation about pet care and the work of the SPCA. SPCA will provide the script and accompanying pictures for the 30-minute PowerPoint presentation. If preferred, SPCA staff can also conduct the session.
- Set up an animal dedication board. Origami animal shapes can be learnt in four easy steps and done after the presentation/play. The students can then write their wish for the animals on these shapes and stick them on the boards.
- Organise an SPCA exhibition and sale of our merchandise to raise funds for our animals. Students can also make their own fundraising items like bookmarks (with animal welfare messages) and cookies. Our range of pet care leaflets and brochures can also be provided. You could also work with the school library to encourage students to borrow animal/pet care-related books.
- Organise a pet food drive. Instead of tinned foods schools normally collect for homes, you can encourage your schoolmates to donate canned pet food for the animals at the SPCA.
- Organise an SPCA membership drive. Students who sign on will get SPCA publications and other exclusive perks. They will also be put in our youth email database for our latest news and volunteer opportunities.

Resources for Early Childhood Educators
Our education programme is currently for participants who are 5 years old and above. However, the team has prepared some materials and resources that are tailored to the preschool level. Educators who are interested in our materials can contact us for more details.
