Happy Endings

Here are some of the many successful adoptions we have had at the SPCA.

If you have adopted from us before and have a story to share with us, please email us at education@spca.org.sg, along with a short write-up of your life with the new member of the family and photos to go with the story.

** One of our adopted pet cats Gandalf has played an important role in the life of Gina Ho and family. We thank her for sharing how Gandalf has helped her husband Edgar Lu cope better in his illness. It is another testament to the fact that pets are a wonderful comfort and good stress relievers. You may wish to read Mr Lu's blog here.

BFFs: Lily and Mathilde

Hi, my name is Lily (aka Venus) and I turn 1 on 17 January 2011. The most wonderful family has adopted me five months ago. I was actually abandoned with my brother and we were real close but he got adopted three days before I did. During those three days I felt really lonely.

In the afternoon of 17 August 2010, the most wonderful thing happened to me: I GOT ADOPTED! It was like living a dream! Mathilde (the 12-year-old girl who adopted me), came to visit me with her best friend. Barbara. Mathilde's mom works at the SPCA as a volunteer and she did all my paperwork so that I could go back to their home. To tell you the truth, Berenice, the adoption counsellor who spent a lot of time with me at the SPCA really encouraged Mathilde and her mom to pick me.

So this is what happened - one minute I was in a car, the next I was in a huge room filled with cat toys. I couldn't believe my good luck. It was a warm, comfortable place. After five minutes of exploring, I decided that the bed, the desk and the bathroom would be mine. And if anyone would dare to come in, I would make them understand my unhappiness. I got used to people going into MY bathroom but the bed is still mine, and I am nice enough to share it with Mathilde.

There is one thing you should know about me: I LOVE FOOD! I usually start begging for my meal one hour before feeding time. I bet you humans don't understand. It's like there is a magnet in the kitchen. You just can't run away from it. I love to eat, pray and love. LOL! No really I LOVE to eat, sleep, play, cuddle with Mathilde at night and wake her up at 6am because I'm hungry.

What I also love to do is play hide and seek and to talk. Yes, I talk. Before I go to bed, I tell all my interesting stories of the day. During the day, I play hide and seek with Mathilde - I chase her all around the house and she does the same with me. I really have a lot of fun and am grateful to have been adopted by this wonderful family. Mathilde is even going to throw a party for my birthday! I hope I get a lot of presents!

Thank you sooo much.

Lily

Me and My Shadow

Moby doesn't quite know he's a cat. He's never far from mummy's heels and sits and waits for me patiently at the door while I get ready for work in the morning. He even 'chats' with me while I cook.

10 things that Moby love (in order of preference):
1) kibbles
2) sleeping on mummy
3) kibbles
4) sleeping on the couch
5) kibbles
6) cuddles
7) kibbles
8) treats
9) kibbles
10) toys

As far as Moby is concerned, laptops should not be on laps. If he ever saw one on mine, he would look at it so disdainfully, you would think there's something wrong with it. The moment it gets off the lap, on jumps the cat.

We love Moby, he's such a sweetheart and super duper smart too!

Right now, he's taking a cat nap on ...you guessed it...mummy!

Ashley Says Hello!

Hey everyone!

It has been around one month since we adopted Ashley from SPCA. Ashley is an awesome dog, who gets really friendly and playful with other dogs in my condominium. She was my 13th birthday present! Ashley is a lovely cross husky. At first when Ashley entered into her new home, she was a little bit scared but now she is very comfortable.

Since Ashley became part of my family, I have a new best friend. At times, I would whisper into her ear: "I love you". She always looked forward whenever my mum, my sister or I comes back from school or elsewhere. My mum seriously goes gaga over her. Well, my whole family treats her like she is a new born baby and go crazy over her. Ashley is a really smart dog. After doing her business in the open field, she would sit on the ground, refusing to move, with her left paw lifted up in the air. That would be the sign that she wants to play with you. She makes everyone's heart melt fast. Ashley seldom barks. She only barks when you play with her. She even has a pillow all to herself! In my house, she is treated like a Queen! Seriously, like a Queen. Everyone gives her all the attention and she really loves it.

Ashley goes crazy every time we pick up her leash because then she would know that it's time for her walk. She has met different kinds of dogs in my condo and she really likes them. She would jump on them, run with them and play with them. But there is one dog that she is madly in love with. This dog is a pure breed husky that is seven years old. Ashley is an obedient dog and knows which room she is not allowed to go in. She even does not do her business in our house! She knows when is her meal time and will always listen to instructions before eating. You could see the spark in her eyes when she gets playful. Ashley really is an awesome dog. I love her just the way she is.

Thank you SPCA for rescuing Ashley. We thank God for she is such a blessing and a joy to my family.

Lots of love,
Ashley (Hershey) and Victoria Liew
