Ashley says hello! |
| |
|
Hey everyone! It has been around one month since we adopted Ashley from SPCA. Ashley is an awesome dog, who gets really friendly and playful with other dogs in my condominium. She was my 13th birthday present! Ashley is a lovely cross husky. At first when Ashley entered into her new home, she was a little bit scared but now she is very comfortable.
Since Ashley became part of my family, I have a new best friend. At times, I would whisper into her ear: "I love you". She always looked forward whenever my mum, my sister or I comes back from school or elsewhere. My mum seriously goes gaga over her. Well, my whole family treats her like she is a new born baby and go crazy over her. Ashley is a really smart dog. After doing her business in the open field, she would sit on the ground, refusing to move, with her left paw lifted up in the air. That would be the sign that she wants to play with you. She makes everyone's heart melt fast. Ashley seldom barks. She only barks when you play with her. She even has a pillow all to herself! In my house, she is treated like a Queen! Seriously, like a Queen. Everyone gives her all the attention and she really loves it.
Ashley goes crazy every time we pick up her leash because then she would know that it's time for her walk. She has met different kinds of dogs in my condo and she really likes them. She would jump on them, run with them and play with them. But there is one dog that she is madly in love with. This dog is a pure breed husky that is seven years old. Ashley is an obedient dog and knows which room she is not allowed to go in. She even does not do her business in our house! She knows when is her meal time and will always listen to instructions before eating. You could see the spark in her eyes when she gets playful. Ashley really is an awesome dog. I love her just the way she is.
Thank you SPCA for rescuing Ashley. We thank God for she is such a blessing and a joy to my family.
Lots of love,
Ashley (Hershey) and Victoria Liew

Bobby changed my life! |
Awww... Isn't that sweet?
| |
|
Hi everybody!
It's been three months ever since Bobby, a beautiful Shih Tzu, came into my life. I thank SPCA for offering him a chance to live and find a new owner. He's amazing, awesome and lovable. We adopted him from his previous owner who adopted him from SPCA. He has been a fantastic dog so far, ever so loving and protective of us. I can't pen down how amazing he is in words. Who says dogs from SPCA or abandoned dogs are bad and problematic. Pedigree or not, they are still dogs and each of them should be given a chance to be loved.
Ever since he came into my life, my life has changed drastically (for the better). In the past, I used to return home late and spend most of my time with my pals. After having the king, I made sure I return home as soon as I can. In this way, I bonded more with my family members whom I neglected in the past. I can't wait to return home to the sight of an incessant wagging tail and barks of my baby. The joy of witnessing ur loved one welcoming you home is unfathomable and perennial. This is definitely not a hyperbole. Also, I'm sleeping on a halved single-sized bed now. Not that I'm complaining and it's a joy to have him sleeping beside me. The feeling is inexplicable. I used to be scared of dogs but he has helped me conquer my fear. My brother and I are contemplating if we should volunteer him and let him be a therapy dog.
I love him so much and life can no longer be the same without him. He goes for walks three times a day to let him eliminate. Bobby gets a bit of treats too (maybe this is why he's so fat now). Bob gets along with everything, from humans to all pets. It's incredulous how this is possible. He's has been the best dog so far and he's more than amazing. I thank God for this 10kg Shih Tzu for bringing some much happiness into my life and allowing me to be more responsible in life.
Offer some compassion and some altruistic love to man's best friends.
Give yourself and these abandoned dogs a chance to be loved.
Once again, thank you SPCA for giving our handsome Bobby a chance.
xoxo,
Mayvin

Ernie's letter home |
Ernie sounds really really happy! That's great news for us at the SPCA!

Hello boys and girls!
It has been close to two years now since I last chatted with you but my owner and her daughter have been telling me to write home because they think I must miss you all.
I know I do. I keep running up to every dog and every gated home with a dog in view thinking they're all friendly and want to have a sniff and nose around with me.
But not every dog I've met since leaving the shelter is friendly and fun loving. Some want to fight with me and others just ignore me even when I pretend cry and wag my tail nonstop.
It's not all the dogs' fault: some owners pull their pets away from me, thinking because I bark at their dogs I'm threatening.
I have a big personality, that's what I'm told. A gregarious nature with a bubbling effervescence that many other 'regular' dogs don't possess. Owners get frightened when they hear my happy bark but don't notice my big fluffy swishy tail wagging.
But how else can I communicate, if I don't bark?
There's also something weird about these dogs I've been meeting. They all look the same and I've even seen photos of these dogs in magazines and dog books, but I have yet to see a single photo of another dog that looks just like me.
My mom says its because I'm unique and special and simply one of a kind.
Just like all of you!
Don't worry if the wait is tiring and you're getting demoralized because it seems as though every one wants one of those 'regular' dogs. Don't lose heart.
Your mommy and daddy is somewhere out there.
Someone who says the 'X' in X Breed stands for 'Exceptional' or 'X Factor' and will love you for that big heart and bottomless well of generosity and faithfulness that you have and are ready to share: but, only with the right person.
I found mine and your day will come: I know it.
When I bark sometimes; my mom comes to me and asks me what it is that I've trying to say, she knows I just want to talk to someone and not because I'm want to make noise.
When I dread bath days because I see her coming towards me with the leash and not the harness; she makes it into a spa treatment; giving me rubs and a stiff brushing afterwards. Now I don't run away from her.
During my first few months with my mom when I bit her shoes and made a 'mistake' on the driveway, she just looked at me and asked if I were having a bad day. She never told me I'm a bad dog.
I used to destroy the daily newspapers too, but I stopped when I found out my mommy told the delivery guys put the newspapers in the mail box because she was afraid the press ink would poison me.
Here are some of my tips on what to do when you get adopted: it will make your new mommy or daddy think you're a true gem that way they'll never send you back!
This is a classic that works all the time when on walks.
When a dog bigger than you approaches, prick your ears up and walk slowly. When you're just facing each other, on either side of the pavement, warily wait. As soon as that big dog pulls on his or her leash, that's it! Spring to action. Remember they have to be the instigator, you: the protector.
It is all for show. A dog has got to do what a dog does best.
Afterwards, stop and give a lick on your owner's knee or leg just to show that you've got things under control.
I like to sometimes stop during the walk, jump up on my owner and kiss her on the face: my owner morphs to putty.
When a teeny dog comes along, the best thing is to ignore them. That way you can show your mom and dad that they're not big deal and they needn't be scared.
My mom says I have to just ignore all dogs whether big or small and simply focus on having a walk. I'm slowly learning to with a lot of encouragement and positive reinforcement.
Now, when I don't react to any dog, mom is the one stopping during walks to kiss me!
Humans take some getting used to.
And before I forget. Don't worry if you can't stop giving kisses after your true best friend comes along, my mommy says its very normal. Like me, you've been saving them all up and you just have a lot of love to give.
Till my next letter: licks, sniffs, wags and woof woof.

You've got mail (from Jackie in Japan)
 |

*One of the sweetest thing in life is to have a good friend by your side always!
Hi, I often visit your website back here in Japan.
I've attached some photographs of my lovely dog, Jackie.
Jackie was adopted from SPCA Singapore. He now lives in Japan with his 'brother', Yumeta (also adopted from an institution like the SPCA) and I.
When I was on a job attachment in Singapore many years ago and living on my own, I felt very lonely. I thought it would be nice to have a dog for company and so I asked my local friend where I could get one. She told me about the SPCA, which happened to be near where I was staying then.
I went over to check out the dogs. My eyes met a tiny but active one-year-old Jack Russell Terrier. I knew instantly that he was the one I was looking for. And that dog is Jackie.
Jackie is always by my side since then. He never fails to cheer me up and tide me through, just like my father and my boyfriend.
My dear friend is 14 years old now and has developed a heart problem. Nonetheless, he is still looking fine.
Since coming back to Japan, both my parents have passed on, leaving me with just Jackie by my side. As usual, he is my great source of support and without him, I cannot imagine how lonely life would be.
I wish Jackie would live as long as possible.

The cat with a triangular patch - Nacho |
Nacho gets home-cooked fish, how blessed!
| |
|
Hi everyone at SPCA ! My pet cat's name is Nacho and i would like to share his happy ending with us!
Nacho was named Stormy at the SPCA but we renamed him Nacho because he has a triangular patch on his fur
which looks like a nacho chip.
On the 7 of September 2008, me and my family visited the SPCA to see any cats that we would like to adopt, and we found Nacho!
He was four months old then.He was really cute so we decided to adopt him.
When we brought him home,he was very afraid and hid under the sofa. After stroking him and giving him treats, he then slowly came out.
Sometimes, when my mother buys things from the supermarket, she would take some fish to cook for Nacho.
When he sees the fish,he would meow loudly and rub our legs. Sometimes when he's impatient,he would jump on the table to look at the fish as we prepare for him.
In the morning when I can't wake up for school, Nacho jumps on the bed beside me and uses his paw to hit my face.
Everyone in the family loves him but he can be naughty at times. Once,he scratched all the toilet paper and broke all our eggs!
Until now, we never regret keeping Nacho as a pet cat.

| Fluffy changed our lives! |
 |
Here is one encouraging story of a stray cat who sets the whole family's hearts ablaze with love!
|
|
|
I still remember when my late father wanted a pet cat and my mom was totally against it.
Thing have since changed. My brother saw a tabby-white cat at the multi-storey car park near our home and told my mom about it. He was interested to bring it home. Initially reluctant, my mom softened when she saw the cat.
This beautiful feline had stayed at the car park for some time and was an independent girl. My brother and mother fed her at one of the stairways where she had been sleeping for months. We bumped into a problem when we remembered that my sister is terrified of cats as she was once scratched by a pregnant mommy cat.
In order to bring the cat home, we had to bring our sister to the multi-storey car park where the cat lived to get her used to it.
One fine day, my mom announced the decision to bring the cat home. She had even come up with a name for her - Fluffy.
It was not easy in the beginning as it was our first time keeping a cat at home. Fluffy made noises in the wee hours like a newborn baby; we took turns to coax her to sleep. She accidentally peed into a pail where we used to store our rice but my mom did not scold her it wasn't her fault; no one knew where she could poo and pee.
For a while, we saved Today newspapers and lay it above a board in the toilet so that Fluffy could do her pee and poo.
Seven months have since flew by, Fluffy is a part of our family now. She waits for us to return home after work each day, comfortably curled up on the sofa. She doesn't need the newspaper for her toilet anymore too.
Best of all, my sister loves Fluffy just like her very own baby and makes sure she plays and talks with her everyday after work. It's unbelievable that Fluffy can change my sister's attitude towards cats.
Regards,
Nurhayati

Lola Frumpie Pinkie |
This is the sweetest rabbit story we've ever heard!
| |
|
Hello SPCA!
My name is Lola Frumpie Pinkie. I am a Lion-head Lop. Just three months back, I was this scrawny listless bunny in the compound until I met my mommy. Little did she know I am a livewire! You can't blame me for that; we bunnies are inquisitive and playful companions.
You know, I am a house rabbit; I get to roam freely about the entire (bunny-proofed) house. No cage, you got that right! Of course, I can be toilet-trained. It took me a while, but with practice and patience, I pee and poo right where the litter box is. I do get into trouble, sometimes, nibbling on the furniture, instead of my toys, but mommy's scolding would stop that.
Mommy discovered my talent in jumping; I can jump up onto to her lap, her bed, chair, tables, anywhere, whenever she called my name and offer me a treat. I don't quite like to be cuddled though unlike other bunnies, but I loved to be petted. Ooh, did I mention I am not longer scrawny? I now get compliments from strangers whenever my mommy takes me out on picnics at the Botanical Gardens or East Coast Park. I get to run about the parks, on leash.
Together with my mommy, I am having a lot of fun and we both feel blessed to have each other. Isn't all this surprising to you? If you would spend some time, love and patience, you will realise an adopted bunny like me do make a wonderful companion.
Love,
Lola

Our intelligent Lizzy!
 |
|
|
*Before living the good life with Alvin and Amelia, Lizzy was an abandoned mommy with several kittens with her. We're glad she has a happy ending now!
Liesel aka Lizzy the cat is the darling of our family! She came into our lives on Friday the 13, February 2009. It was love at first sight when we spotted her lounging around lazily in her cage in the adoption area. When we approached, she stretched out a paw between the bars as if to say, 'Hey there, I'm yours!" We were smitten.
Now Lizzy is the queen of the household. She stalks around the house all day, surveying the kingdom that she rules over. She loves the kitchen especially because it smells so good! And on cold nights she becomes a much welcomed addition to the bed, snuggling up to us like a hot water bottle. Thank you SPCA for bringing Lizzy into our lives!
Yours Truly,
Alvin and Amelia

| Fawn drops us a line! |
 |
While Fawn was here, he was called Pooka-san. Isn't that cute!
Hi everyone,
|
|
|
I'm 'Fawn' (previously known s 'Pooka-San'), a cross-Pug, adopted from SPCA about a year ago. I was a very hyperactive dog when I was brought to my new home. I kept sniffing every nook and corner as if I was looking for a bomb. My new owners had to hold on to my leash tightly when they brought me out for my first walk. My owners also taught me how to be obedient and toilet trained me too!
Now my owners like to praise me when I am good and they always say that I am very cute. They also like to play with me and I will always enjoy it thoroughly.I love them 101%. Sometimes I can swear that they can understand me!
Thank you, SPCA for giving me a chance to live in a new home!
Ruff! Ruff! (Love,)
Fawn
